Procrastination 101
I can't believe I've neglected my blog for so long. A blog needs to be nourished, it needs to be kept alive. It's just the business and unexpected happenings of varsity life that get to you and you forget you even have a blog to take care of. Anyway, to tell the truth I'm actually sitting in the library having a bit of a procrastination spree. My tummy hurts from eating more than I usually do at breakfast in order to keep me full while I study. Sleep is starting to take over and heartburn is the only thing keeping me awake. In varsity it seems like even if you sleep early and wake up early, you still get tired. Same happens when I sleep early and wake up late, the sleep I got just wasn't enough. And sleeping late and waking up early? That's all we're used to, sleepy or not, we are just hustling our way through this academic fiasco called varsity life. I'm out, time to hit the books again.

The things we do for fashion

If heels were people they would be slutty and double minded. They are would be admired and loved and hanging with them would make you look hot, but they are capable of hurting you sooo bad. I need to get used to this stilletto thing. I still walk like a wounded penguin tiptoeing on a railroad track every time I attempt to strut my stuff. I came from a 21st tonight and saw ladies wearing the most gorgeous heels. I looked down at my bare aching feet and thought there is no chance I'd ever survive in the harsh working world. It's sad but true - us women can only be taken seriously in the working world if we wear heels to work. Which female CEO could ever exert influence wearing a pair of pumps? It's rough for us women. Surviving the pain of toe mutilation just to look professional?
And it's about time I get used to wearing makeup, I think. I don't believe I can use the excuse of "but I wear glasses" any longer. Confession - eye pencils freak me out. I don't care much for nail polish either. The excuse of "but I have ugly nails" won't work much longer either, and on that note, any ideas as to how I can stop biting my nails? I've been nibbling on this chitin ever since I was in primary school and haven't stopped since. I've probably stunted their growth. I guess that's the end of my fingernails then.
What is a family like?
A Family Is Like
© Nicole M. O'Neil
A Family is like a circle
the connection never ends
and even if at times it breaks
in time it always mends
a family is like the stars
somehow there always there
families are those who help
who support and always care
A Family is like a book
the endings never clear
but through the pages of the book
their love is always near
A family is many things
with endless words that show
who they are and what they do
and how they teach you so you know
but don’t be weary if it's broken
or if through time its been so worn
families are like that-
they're split up and always torn
but even if this happens
your family will always be
they help define just who you are
and will be apart of you eternally

Now who does this at your church?
This video cracked me up the first time I watched it and still makes me chuckle now and again but a friend of mine didn't find it quite as funny. She complained about how black people are always portrayed in some sort of ridiculous light or made fun of in some way. This is kinda true...you know those pictures of black BLACK people made to look so ugly on facebook and friends tag you in them and laugh till they drop. Well I've never found those funny. Just plain stupid. And I've never seen that happen to a white person before. It didn't occur to me that the dancing guy is just praising the Lord in his own way even though I've never seen such radical dance moves in church. The time is way past for the practices of black people to be mocked and joked about. Not that I'm getting all serious about this one video...I'm just saying people shouldn't judge. But this guy is just plain LAME.
Mourning the loss of a vintage top
So I just found out my favourite top got stolen from the laundry room at res. My dad bought it in Switzerland from C&A and I only got to wear it twice. This is no trivial matter for me. I've been depressed all day and it got me thinking about how attached we are to material things. I can't help it - I loved that top and it will take me ages to get over it. The more I think about it, the more overcome with hatred I become and wish the person who took it could get a rash or something like it. Some Christian I am right? I'm thinking the same thing. The Lord says we should love our enemies and here I am wishing all sorts of evil upon them. The Lord says we should not keep treasures on earth but in heaven where they will not be damaged (or stolen) and here I am investing so much importance in that one top. The Lord also says we should not worry about what we are going to wear because he provides! But in my head I'm thinking if he'll provide that top...I really did love that top and I got so many compliments the day I wore it. Please don't think I'm a vain pig! Just think of your favourite item of clothing and how you would react if it got stolen. Some would cry...yeah I cried. I was overcome with dissapointment ok!
So I try and get a lesson from each dissapointment I face and I guess this one was about not placing all your passion and admiration in material things because when they are gone, they are gone for good, and they do nothing to comfort you when you're weeping and gnashing your teeth over their loss. I know I'm acting like I lost a little lamb but I'm pretty beaten up about it, especially when I go through all 60 of my resmates in my head thinking who could have stolen it. I'm still holding onto a little faith that it will come back though...Oh Lord have mercy on this child of yours!
